The Melodius Old Hindi Songs
The golden age of Indian film music seems to be never coming back. The old Hindi songs are the all time favorites that the new music directors shamelessly “remix” calling them their own compositions!
The old Hindi songs inspire the emotions in the heart and make people cry even today. Be it a patriotic song or a bhajan song, be it a romantic love song or one that mourns the separation of his or her love, the old Hindi songs touch the hearts of all those who hear them even the millionth time! When it comes to emotions, the song “Babul Ki Duayen Leti Jaa” sung by Mohammad Rafi can make any father literally cry anytime! As a matter of fact while singing the soulful song Mohammad Rafi was himself crying as he remembered the vidai of his own daughter a day ago he recorded the song! When the singers have true emotions in their work, it is no wonder their emotions even touch everyone's heart even today.
The music of the old Hindi songs was often based on the Indian classical music which made the old Hindi songs so melodious. The treasure of the Indian classical music is so vast, deep and mature that it is not easy to master even half of it. The musicians of the old Hindi songs, like Naushad and Madan Mohan were masters of the Indian classical music and used it to compose songs that became eternal. But it was not just the musicians who knew classical music, the singers were equally qualified. Mohammad Rafi, Manna Dey and Lata Mangeshkar could sing any contemporary or classical song with ease.
The best part is that even though composers and the singers of the old Hindi songs did exceptional work and achieved immense success, they still were very humble. The musicians would often credit the success of the songs to the singers and the singers would credit that to the musicians. In contrast, the “musicians” of today shamelessly boast even if not one of their songs is a hit. If you listened to Mohammad Rafi talk, you would not imagine that a person who talks so softly and humbly can sing the songs that he has! Lata Mangeshkar, even today, practices daily for singing! When people would congratulate Lata for singing a wonderful song, she would always say that her singing is just because of the grace of her Almighty and it is not that she has done something good!
As a matter of fact, the “old Hindi songs” never became old. They are still more famous than the contemporary. They are still sought after by the “musicians” of today to either copy it or to create a “remix”! The singers who learn singing today, still practice singing only the old Hindi songs. The old Hindi songs are eternal and ever inspiring true works of art that cannot become old ever!
